Genesis 1:26,27

"Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our own image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth." So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them."

The Bible teaches that men and women are created in the image or likeness of God. I believe that this means every person is of great inherent value and worth. Our God is a personal God, an infinite God who is infinite in His perfections: aweful in holiness, almighty in power, perfectly just, loving in unimaginable ways. The truth is that all of mankind has been made in the image or likeness of God. To be like God is to be truly human.

What is it that separates humankind from the animals? We have personality, rationality, spirituality, creativity, authority, and morality. No beast exhibits these traits because they are reflections of the God who created every man and woman.

Human personality is a dim mirror of the personal nature of God. The Bible teaches that God is three Persons, the Father, the Son, and the Spirit. This doctrine of the Trinity means that from all eternity the three Persons of the Trinity had perfect communication, the deepest friendship, and the most intense joy possible in each other. All of our human relationships at their very best are but a poor reflection of the incredible wellspring of joy and personality that is found in the Godhead.
